What really freaked me out was watching "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" in a spooky old Chautauqua theater as a very young kid, there with my brothers. It was so scary I kept trying to sneak out of the theater, but when I got too far from my brothers the theater itself became more scary than the movie, and I would creep my way back to my seat. And then I watched "Pink Floyd The Wall" in the theater at age 13 and it utterly blew my mind. And THAT'S another story too! (Told in these pages, actually: http://www.albertnet.us/2012/02/pink-floyd-wall.html )Dana Alberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13488621586586091954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6737851275453020904.post-91077730498671717262017-03-08T09:21:54.696-08:002017-03-08T09:21:54.696-08:00I was born in 1972 and read this when I was in Kin...I was born in 1972 and read this when I was in Kindergarten. Sad to say, it terrified me! My nightmares prior to reading this book were full of evil talking wolves hellbent on devouring me - kicking and screaming- and loved to hide under my bed, in the closet, and just out of sight around the corner of my bedroom door..the drawings of Sam on the ground at night, watched by the silhouette of Black Wolf, burned itself into my subconscious (and drove me to search for this title at age 45)and stained many a nightmare to come. For God's sake, the things name is BLACK WOLF! I mean, c'mon, its as evil sounding as they come, and the simple, flat statement "Black Wolf is BAD!" might as well be accompanied by creepy symphony music, with kettledrums, cymbal crashes, and shrieking violins!!! The only thing to rival the terror the story/illustrations caused, was Walt Disney's "Peter and the Wolf"...Lousy traumatic childhood! A few years later I sat in the Drive-In with our psychedelically impaired babysitter and watched a new movie that had just come to town, called "Dawn of the Dead" but THAT'S another story.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6737851275453020904.post-41122346648352006842016-03-01T16:30:30.720-08:002016-03-01T16:30:30.720-08:00Awesome Dana! Very entertaining, well written and definitely brought a smile to my face! Edna Walker Chandler was my Grandmother and passed away in 1982. Her son (my father) passed in 2014 and I inherited copies of most of her books. Would you mind if I copied your post to my family history book for personal purposes only? Thank you! I stumbled across it as I'm doing a blog post on my top 5 favorite books of all time and the Cowboy Sam series is one of them. I was trying to remember all the titles. When asked which cowboy they like better, both immediately answered, "Shorty." I asked why. "He looks gooder and besides, I just like him. He's nicer," replied Lindsay.

Alexa's answer was less illuminating, as she merely itemized the same complaints I have made about Sam's behavior. Weeks ago, as this review was gradually germinating in my mind, I'd led Alexa through a series of leading questions, which served to eliminate the possibility of her making up her own mind. Parents can sure be lame sometimes.Dana Alberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13488621586586091954noreply@blogger.com
